WBP Requirements

Applicant Qualifications

We’re looking for dedicated individuals with the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) or OEC (Outdoor Emergency Care) training (current or past certification is welcome).
  • Other medical training is gladly accepted, including M.D., Paramedic, Nurse, or similar credentials. Firefighters, Police, and Medics are also encouraged to apply.
  • For Special Class Patroller In Training, Wilderness First Aid (WFA), First Responder, or equivalent is required.
  • Strong off-road mountain bike riding skills are essential.

Application Requirements

To join our team, here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • Submit a WBP Application Form for review and approval by the WBP Board.
  • Commit to assisting at a minimum of seven WBP-scheduled events during our season (with over 30 events to choose from, there’s plenty of flexibility!).
  • If you’re unable to meet the minimum event commitment, we kindly ask that you refrain from applying at this time.
  • Respond to all event notification emails during the week of the event to confirm your availability, helping us plan effectively.
  • After board approval, complete our 30-minute WBP Orientation Class (approximately 45 minutes total).
  • When assisting at events, wear the required patrol gear, including the Patrol Jersey, Medical Pack, and a basic mechanical tools kit.

Responsibilities

As a patroller, you’ll:

  • Provide medical assistance to anyone in need.
  • Offer emergency bike repairs, such as fixing flat tires, chains, or derailleur issues (don’t worry—we can teach you these skills!).
